Teach Your Dog New Tricks With These Tips
Many dogs are placed in shelters since they didn’t behave the way their owners wanted. Often, this can be avoided. Properly trained dogs are healthy and happy members of a family. Transforming a dog into this type of companion can actually be easy, as long as you spend the effort and time necessary.
When you do give your dog correction verbally, make those corrections short, sharp and to the point. Avoid launching a lengthy tirade against your pet and his naughty behavior. Just say no and show them the behavior you expect. Remember that your voice’s volume gets their attention and that you are talking business.
Try to get your dog on a regular feeding schedule. By establishing a regular potty-time every day, you will get your dog in the habit of doing his business at the same time daily. Having a set schedule will teach your dog how to wait until he can go outside for the next potty break.
A number of repetitions will be necessary before your dog will be able to master a new command. It is not uncommon for it to take between 25 to 50 repetitions of the same command for your dog to learn it. Firmly and steadily repeat the command. Remain patient and eventually the command will be learned.
Early in your training, teach your new pup to “leave it.” This command tells him to drop the item and step away. This basic command is extremely helpful when your dog is chewing on something he shouldn’t and also helps to keep him away from dangerous items.
Let your dog get a minimum of an hour of exercise every day, and do this in addition to standard breaks outside for potty and training. Ensuring your dog gets thorough exercise will cause your training sessions to be much more effective, which will encourage your dog to behave better. Your dog will be happier and more responsive when he gets the exercise he needs.
Does your dog have all of the nutrition it needs. Like children, dogs can become hyperactive, inattentive and even a little bit bratty when their diet isn’t up to par. The right diet can make all the difference in your pet’s behavior. Also, speak with your vet to make sure that your dog is getting the proper nutritional content.
Use the tips you just read and your dog will soon become a lot easier to manage and become easier to live with. You will notice a difference in your dog’s behavior as soon as you begin using these strategies.
